Located in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy, Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe is a unique blend of British specialty store, bakery, and café. It caters to anyone craving a slice of British life, whether you're looking for authentic tea time treats, ingredients for a classic meal, or quirky British gifts and souvenirs.

The shop’s atmosphere feels like a cozy corner of a UK market, filled with shelves stocked with imported goodies that you rarely find elsewhere in the city—from traditional sausages and meat pies to an impressive frozen section featuring Shepherd’s pies and steak & kidney pies. This is a spot where locals familiar with British fare will appreciate the depth of groceries, while newcomers get a genuine introduction to the cuisine and culture.

Visitors often come for the bakery offerings and the café patio, which supports gatherings around traditional English scones and sticky toffee pudding. The café embraces a community vibe, especially noticeable during themed afternoon teas—such as the Harry Potter event seen in recent years—where tables brim with charming decor and guests dress up, turning a visit into more of an event than just a quick bite.

Staff here are consistently noted for their friendliness and helpful knowledge, making it comfortable for shoppers to ask about products, dietary info (like gluten-free options), or recommendations for British staples. Pricing is reasonable compared to what you’d expect from specialty imports, and the product variety extends to clothing, bone china rentals, and artisan condiments, making it a versatile stop whether you’re after a gift or planning a British-themed gathering.

For those living nearby or exploring Little Italy, Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe works best as a relaxed cultural detour. Mornings and early afternoons on weekdays can be quieter, perfect for browsing or a calm cup of tea on the patio. Weekend visits may bring more of the community energy, especially if there’s a themed event or the café is hosting one of its well-loved afternoon tea sessions.

Ultimately, this store serves people who appreciate authentic, thoughtfully sourced British food and gifts—and it suits anyone interested in sampling and celebrating British culinary traditions without leaving San Diego.

Picked up a few sweets. And some aabories for lunch. Lovely gentleman inside to help. Several items are marked gluten free. Many of the sweets ingredient labels have known allergens in bold print. Prices are reasonable for what your getting.

Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe provides “Everything from Britain without the weather.” Very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff! The Shoppe features full British and Irish groceries, candies, English bakery with baked foods, English café patio, souvenirs, clothing, china, and English bone china rental. Delicious, fresh-baked, authentic British Scones, Cornish Beef Pasty, and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The covered patio provides a cozy spot to enjoy traditional British delicacies and teas. The Shoppe also features delightfully British, traditional Afternoon Tea at The Britannia Tearooms. The Shoppe is adjacent to the Shakespeare Pub.

Charming and cute British store. They have wonderful sausages and meat pies and other British foods. They have UK teas, cookies, snacks, seasoning, canned foods and such. I've included pictures of some of the many items available for purchase. Staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Very nice shop packed full of items usually only found in the UK. Great selection of snacks, condiments, canned and jarred goods, teas and tea infusers. There is a refrigerated section of cheeses and pastries. The frozen section has an amazing selection, including Shepherd's pie, Steak & Kidney pie, bangers, puddings, and pastries. The employees are very friendly and eager to answer questions and make suggestions. The prices have increased a bit, but it is still a great shop. This trip we got a Matthew Walker Christmas pudding and a jar of Gale's Lemon Curd. Both were very good.

High tea at Shakespeare is one of my favorite things to do in San Diego. The teas and treats are yummy and presentation is always adorable. The ladies who go dress to impress and they do some really fun theme teas as well. I went to a Harry Potter themed tea in October and the decorations were amazing!

Hard to find minced pies, they make individual pies that are absolutely amazing. Their tea upholds all British standards including being properly brewed.

Every single aspect of our Tea was exceptional. The food and tea were both delicious. SO many courses, arrive hungry. They are small bites but that is deceiving. We ate every single thing and were positively stuffed! The service was wonderful, the waitress was very knowledgeable and answered all our food/tea/culture questions! The shop inside is a ton of fun. We purchased more tea, some brittish snacks and candies too! They have hand pies inside. We will be sure to purchase those the next time we're in town.

How have I lived in San Diego for almost 10 years and am only now just discovering this gem? After having lunch at Shakespeare's restaurant next door, we decided to check out this shop and I'm so glad we did! The staff are super friendly and helpful and will walk you through any questions you have. They have a lot of pastries and savories that they make right there in-house, including several varieties of "take and bake" scones. I chose the raspberry white chocolate ones and baked them tonight, and they are divine! I'm already looking forward to a return visit!
